Simple Ways to Conserve Water in your Home 16/10/2014 @ 10:06

Now that water charges have commenced here are a few simple ways of being more efficient with water in your home.

- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth – 6 litres of water can be wasted per person if the tap is left on while brushing!
- Fix dripping taps – this can waste thousands of litres every year.
- Only fill the kettle with as much water as you require.
- Repair any existing leaks.
- Use full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine. When buying these be sure to get water efficient appliances.
- Use the shower instead of the bath.
- Check that showers and toilets are in proper working order.
- Consider putting a displacement device to your cistern to reduce the amount of water used.
- Wash fruits and vegetables in a bowl or place a basin in the sink rather than leaving the tap on.
- Use a bucket and sponge when washing car instead of a hose.
- Use a watering can instead of a hose to water your plants and garden.
- On a regular basis check outdoor pipes and plumbing for any leaks.
- Use a broom if possible to clean outside the home, on driveways or pathways instead of a water hose.
- Consider collecting rainwater for your home.
